Summary: It was a tough road, but I experienced the overwhelming destructive power of nature. People with bad backs should be considered. I feel like I'm off-planet.

Summary: Where am I supposed to start? This trip to the Danakil Valley was one of the craziest, most surreal and unforgettable experiences of my life! If you love adventure, stunning scenery and don’t mind a bit of heat and dust, then this is an absolute must. From the moment we left Semera, it felt like we were traveling to another planet. Dallol was simply indescribable – brightly coloured sulphur lakes, bubbling hot springs and steaming fumaroles everywhere. The colors were so intense that it seemed almost unreal! It was HOT, but our guide made sure we had enough breaks and water – and honestly, the view made up for it all. Then we continued to Lake Afdera, a beautiful salt lake in the middle of the desert. Swimming in it felt like a little mini Dead Sea experience – super relaxing! But one of the absolute highlights? The camel caravans that roamed the desert leisurely – just as they have for centuries. A totally fascinating and impressive sight. The highlight was the hike to Erta Ale, an active volcano with a real lava lake. The hike was exhausting but absolutely doable – and when we finally reached the top... WOW. Standing there watching the glowing, seething lava in the darkness was just magical. We stayed near the crater, and fell asleep under a gigantic starry sky with the glowing volcano in the distance? Unforgettable. My conclusion This trip was just awesome! The guides were great, the organization perfect, and the scenery? Just surreal. Not a luxury trip (it's hot, dusty and easy), but if you love adventure, you have to experience it! ✔️ A few tips: Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses and hat – the sun is merciless! Good hiking boots are a must for the Erta Ale. The accommodations are very basic – but that’s exactly part of the adventure! Be sure to bring a camera – you don’t see such a landscape every day!
